Traitor - Film Review

In August, inside our sub-par theater, most films playing on screens are either summer holdovers or films that couldn't find a home anywhere else. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, comes Traitor. Here's a film that wants us to look at the truth behind government agencies, religion, the war on terror, and decide what a hero really looks like. Lofty goals indeed. Does it succeed? Not totally, but this well-made thriller doesn't waste your time or insult your intelligence. With Don Cheadle and Guy Pearce showing once again that they are two of the most underrated actors of their generation, the failure of the film to meet all its goals doesn't mean it won't keep you on the edge of your seat. This is a typically bad time of year to visit the theater, but Traitor is a good reason to.
***1/2 (of a possible five)
